CHICAGO, Ill. - Sophomore Vaida Sipaviciute (Kaunas, Lithuania) scored 16 points as the Orange lost to #15/15 DePaul, 82-57, in its last game of the season on Feb. 28 at the DePaul Athletic Center. Sipaviciute finished the 2005-06 campaign with 441 points, tied with Julie McBride for the 10th-highest single-season total in program history. McBride netted 441 points in 28 games during the 2003-04 season. Sipaviciute's classmate Amanda Adamson (Littleton, Colo.) saved her best for last, scoring a season-high nine points in the contest.
Sipavciute finished the night shooting 8-of-14 from the floor. It was her 22nd time in double-figures this season. Adamson scored all of her points off of 3-pointers, hitting a personal-best three triples. Adamson also tied her career high with six rebounds.
Redshirt freshman Sara Antolick (Bethlehem, Pa.) recorded 12 points, one off of her career high. Freshman Jenny Eckhart (Libertyville, Ill.), playing in front of several friends and family, notched eight points. She finished the season with 267 points, which ranks ninth on the all-time freshman scoring list.
SU held a 5-4 lead at the 17:55 mark in the first half, but DePaul went on an 11-0 scoring run to take a 14-4 margin with 14:25 left to play in the period. Allie Quigley nailed a pair of 3-pointers to cap the run and Khara Smith added another. The Blue Demons led by as many as 18 in the opening frame and took a 16-point cushion, 39-23, into the locker room at the break.
In the second half, SU scored the first four points of the period to cut the lead to 12, 39-27, with 18:23 on the clock. DePaul quickly responded, however, with a 16-2 run to put the game out of reach.
For the Blue Demons (24-5, 11-5), Khara Smith registered the 73rd double-double of her career with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Quigley had 13 points and Caprice Smith added 11. DePaul shot 11-for-24 (.458) from beyond the arc in the game.
The victory assured the Blue Demons the third seed and first-round bye in the BIG EAST Championship. The Orange finished 2005-06 with an overall record of 9-18 and a 2-14 mark in conference play.
