REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. – The Syracuse women’s rowing team participated in the 2006 Windermere Rowing Classic hosted by Stanford this past weekend. The crews competed in six dual races, including a pair against nationally ranked foes.
In the varsity eight’s first race on Saturday, Oregon State beat out the Orange as SU finished in 8:11.54. In its second race, SU faced No. 15 Stanford but lost, clocking in at 7:39.7. In the Orange’s final varsity eight race on Sunday, Syracuse lost to No. 10 Washington with a time of 7:03.85.
SU’s second varsity eight also rowed in three events. On Saturday, the Orange lost to the host Cardinal with a mark of 7:45.8. In two races on Sunday, SU lost to Washington with a time of 7:10.24, and then to Boston University, finishing that race in 7:02.20.
The regatta featured six nationally ranked varsity eight boats, including California, Virginia, and Ohio State, which all featured a boat in the varsity eight and second varsity eight grand finals at the 2005 NCAA Championship. Syracuse was the only BIG EAST team to compete in the event.
On Saturday, April 1, SU hosts its first race of the spring season when Cornell and Yale come to compete on Onondaga Lake.
