Orange Brings Ten Eyck Cup back to SU

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J.—The Syracuse men’s rowing varsity eight ousted Rutgers at the Ten Eyck Cup race in New Brunswick, N.J. on Saturday, returning the cup to SU for the first time since 2002. SU’s varsity eight finished the race in 5:46.60, well ahead of Rutgers who finished in 6:01.10.
Crew members of the varsity eight on Saturday were sophomore Ryan Armstrong (Andover, Mass.), senior Terry Wilkin (King of Prussia, Pa.), senior Tim Mambort (Toledo, Ohio), senior Dave Barone (Maumee, Ohio), senior Dan O’Shaughnessy (Elizabethtown, Ontario), junior Bartosz Szczyrba (Poznan, Poland), junior Matt Morrow (Hixson, Tenn.) and junior Chad Taylor (New Milford, Conn.).
Other action between the Orange and Scarlet Knights included the junior varsity eight race in which SU was victorious with a time of 6:01.90. Rutgers’ junior varsity eight raced the course in 6:18.0.
Rutgers defeated Syracuse in the freshman eight race with the Orange rowing the race in 6:16.7 behind the Scarlet Knights who came in 6:06.9.
Syracuse’s varsity eight is now 1-0 this season and will next be in action on Saturday, April 15 when it hosts Navy and Cornell for the Goes Trophy Race on Onondaga Lake at 8 a.m.
