Orange Takes Three Wins At Big Red Invitational

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Syracuse track and field team competed in the Big Red Invitational at Cornell on April 30 where it had three wins and 13 top-three performances. Freshman Jake Puusalu (Chemung, N.Y.) won the 400m dash with a time of 49.35 seconds. Sophomore Keisha Townsend (San Jose, Calif.) took the 400m hurdles at 1:03.43 and senior Tim Scarpinato (Croghan, N.Y.) won the 5000m with a time of 15:33.00.
Other top performances for the men included junior Martin Semenowicz (London, Ontario), who finished second in the 100m dash with a time of 11.04 seconds and also placed second in the 200m dash at 21.97 seconds. Freshman Keith Williams (Old Tappan, N.J.) placed third in the 400m dash at 50.56 seconds. In the 100m dash, sophomore Dong Woo Shin (Junction City, Ore.) finished third with a time of 11.20 seconds. Freshmen Daniel Kelly (Auburn, N.Y.) (56.54) and Stai-Sean Lyew (Patterson, N.J.) (56.66) finished second and third, respectively, in the 400m hurdles. Sophomore Chris McDonald (Waterbury, Conn.) placed third in the 5000m at 15:49.29 and sophomore Randy Heubel (Freehold, N.J.) took third in the javelin with a throw of 48.46m.
For the women, senior Christen Tucker (Oakland, Calif.) placed second in the 100m dash at the Big Red Invitational with a time of 12.41 seconds and she finished third in the 200m dash at 25.52 seconds. Sophomore Meghan Rowcliffe (Churchville, N.Y.) took second in the 3000m by clocking in at 10:53.17 and senior Jessyca Jackson (Harrisburg, Pa.) finished third in the pole vault by clearing 3.35m.
The Orange is back in action next weekend for the 2006 BIG EAST Championship on May 5-7 in Storrs, Conn.
