SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Syracuse University men's lacrosse players Mike Leveille (Delmar, N.Y.) and John Wright (Birmingham, Mich.) were named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Men’s At-Large Second Team. It is the first time either student-athlete has won the honor. ESPN the Magazine, in conjunction with The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), sponsors the award. To be nominated, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore in class standing, must be a starter or regular contributor on the field and must carry at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average.
Wright, a three-year starter on defense, has played a key role in helping lead the Orange back to the NCAA semifinals this weekend in Philadelphia. A team captain and six-time member of the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll, Wright has started in 14 games for the Orange this season and has 25 ground balls. He is often asked to cover the opposing team's top attackman. Wright majored in philosophy at Syracuse and held a minor in music industry.
Leveille, a sophomore attackman, is SU’s second leading goal-scorer this season with 31 goals to go along with 18 assists. He was a 2005 STX/USILA Honorable Mention All-American and has been named to the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll each semester he’s been at Syracuse. Leveille scored the game-winning goal in overtime this season at Rutgers and poured in four goals and an assist in the NCAA quarterfinals against Johns Hopkins to help the Orange advance to its 24th appearance at NCAA Championship Weekend. He is a general studies major in the School of Management at Syracuse.
The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) selects Academic All-America teams in 12 programs: football, womens volleyball, men's soccer, women's soccer, mens basketball, womens basketball, baseball, softball, mens track & field/cross country, womens track & field/cross country, mens at-large and womens at-large.
