Foti Readies for U.S. Region I ODP Tour of France

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – SU men’s soccer coach Dean Foti will travel to Angers, France as a member of the U.S. Region I Olympic Development Program coaching staff when the team competes for the Tropheìe de I’Avenir from June 3-4. Eight teams from around the world will participate in the two-day tournament.
The eight participants have been divided into two groups of four. The U.S. team will compete against two clubs from France (Rennes and Maine et Loire Select) and one from Belgium (Standard de Lieìge) in group play. The other group is made up of squads from Portugal (Boavista Porto), Spain (Espanyol), Denmark (Aalborg) and Mali (Bamako FC).
The U.S. Region I ODP Team is scheduled to arrive in Paris on May 29 and it will spend three days participating in various activities, including training sessions and scrimmages. From there, the club will embark on its trip to Angers where it will spend June 1-2 training and competing in another scrimmage in preparation for the tournament which begins on June 3.
The team is slated to return to the United State on June 5.
The Region I ODP Team is made up of top players ages 18 and under from the northeast corridor of the United States.
Foti’s Olympic Development Teams have traveled the globe participating in tournaments in England, Spain, Morocco, Switzerland, Brazil and France during the last 10 years. Foti is in his 18th year working with the Olympic Development Program and will begin his 16th year at the helm of the SU men’s soccer program in 2006.
The Orange is slated to open the 2006 campaign with a home match against Niagara on Friday, Aug. 25.
