Seven different players scored in the Syracuse women’s lacrosse team’s 14-3 victory against Northwestern in its regular-season finale on this date in 2003. It is the only athletic event to take place in the Carrier Dome during the past 25 years.
The Orange scored 10 of the game’s first 11 goals in its 10th win of the season. Senior Kim Wayne led the team with five points on three goals and two assists. Junior Leigh-Ann Zimmer tallied a hat trick and dished out one assist. Junior Cristine Doran, junior Danielle Lillis and sophomore Jessica Bell each recorded two goals. Syracuse earned its fourth straight NCAA Tournament invitation that season. The Orange lost to Yale, 12-7, in the first round of the tournament.
The Dome first hosted an event on this date in the year its doors opened. The Lipizzan Horse Show took place on this date in 1981.
More than 23.5 million people have passed through the revolving doors of the Carrier Dome since the building’s first public event on September 20, 1980. Throughout the 2005-06 SU athletics seasons the University will celebrate the first 25 years of the Loud House.
