
Melo Makes List Of 15 USA Basketball Finalists

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA -- Former Syracuse standout Carmelo Anthony was one of 15 players selected as finalists for the USA Basketball World Championship Team. The squad was announced by USA Basketball senior national team managing director Jerry Colangelo and USA head coach Mike Krzyzewski at a press conference on Tuesday, July 25.
Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim is an assistant coach with the squad, along with Phoenix Suns head coach Mike D'Antoni and Portland Trail Blazers head coach Nate McMillan.
Anthony, a forward with the Denver Nuggets, is joined by: Gilbert Arenas (Washington Wizards), Shane Battier (Houston Rockets), Chris Bosh (Toronto Raptors), Bruce Bowen (San Antonio Spurs), Elton Brand (Los Angeles Clippers), Kirk Hinrich (Chicago Bulls), Dwight Howard (Orlando Magic), LeBron james (Cleveland Cavaliers), Antawn Jamison (Washington Wizards), Joe Johnson (Atlanta Hawks), Brad Miller (Sacramento Kings), Chris Paul (New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets), Amare Stoudemire (Phoenix Suns) and Dwayne Wade (Miami Heat).
USA Basketball must submit an official 12-man roster prior to the start of the August 19-September 3 FIBA World Championship in Sapporo, Japan.
Anthony helped lead Syracuse to the 2003 NCAA Championship in his one season with the program. He averaged 22.2 points and 10.0 rebounds per game during his freshman campaign. He opted for the NBA Draft that spring and was selected third overall by Denver.
