Countdown to Kickoff
Position Previews: Tight End
The tight end position will have adjustments to make with the loss of both of last year's starters. Joe Kowalewski, the team’s fourth-leading receiver in 2005, is in training camp with the New York Jets and Alex Shor, the only other tight end to start multiple games, is trying to make the Arizona Cardinals roster. That leaves behind a group of tight ends with only five combined receptions. Senior Brandon Darlington and sophomore Tom Ferron headline this inexperienced group. They are joined by senior Arthur Kapalanga, juniors Kyle Bell and J.J. Nesheiwat, and sophomore Ryan Donnelly. It is unclear who the starters will be, leaving room for any of the players to make an impact in training camp.
Brian White, who serves as the offensive coordinator and tight ends coach, has seen solid progress from the entire group throughout training camp. “I think this will be a position of strength for the team,” White said. “We can weave the different parts and have them all contribute. Brandon Darlington has a great personality and J.J. Nesheiwat is improving everyday.”
