Perry Patterson and Kelvin Smith Quotes
Football is back! The 2006 SU football squad reported to campus for the start of preseason camp on Sunday, August 6. Sunday night the team will participate in various administrative meetings as it prepares for its first workout and annual Media Day on Monday, August 7.
Senior quarterback Perry Patterson said the team spent the summer working hard to prepare for the 2006 season because they want to disprove the pre-season predictions.
“Everybody was really looking forward to it," Patterson said. "It has been a long off season. Everybody was really working hard every day. Nobody was letting a day go by without somebody doing something. We put a lot of time in. It was the most intense off season I have been around so I think guy are all fired up about being back.”
The Orange return 42 lettermen from last season's squad, including 10 starters (six offense, four defense).
Starting linebacker Kelvin Smith believes there is a lot of energy and enthusiasm within the program.
“I couldn’t wait to get up here," Smith said. "I was flying up here on the highway to just to get back to school for the first time ever really. I’m just ready to go. I’ve seen some new faces. Guys are real happy. I remember when I was rookie. There are a lot of things going on right now. It’s a lot of fun.”
Syracuse will begin its 2006 slate with a 6:30 p.m. contest at Wake Forest on Sept. 2 in a game that will be available on ESPN 360. The 2006 home opener is scheduled for Sept. 9 versus #17 Iowa in the Carrier Dome. That game will be televised on ABC. Kickoff against the Hawkeyes is at 3:30 p.m.
