The Syracuse football team will look to win its first game of the season when it travels to Illinois to square-off against the Fighting Illini. Syracuse's upset bid against #14/15 Iowa came up just short last weekend and the Orange will look to get back on the winning track in Champaign. Syracuse enters the game with a 0-2 record while Illinois stands at 1-1.
Kickoff is set for 12:00 p.m. eastern time and can be seen live on ESPNU. Fans can also listen to the game on 95X and ESPN Radio 1260 in the Syracuse area. The Orange Friendzy pre-game celebration will begin at 9:00 a.m. CDT and will continue until kickoff at 11:00 a.m. CDT. The event will be held at a tent on the grounds of Memorial Stadium. Syracuse-Illinois Series
In 10 all-time meetings, Illinois owns a 9-1 advantage against the Orange. Five of Illinois' nine victories against the Orange came before 1955. Syracuse's lone victory in the series came in 1977 when the Orange defeated the Fighting Illini 30-20 in Champaign. Illinois has won the last three contests in the series, claiming victories in 1978, 1981 and 1982.

Carney Earns Conference Honors
Senior punter and co-captain Brendan Carney was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll following his performance against nationally-ranked Iowa last weekend. He punted seven times for 328 total yards (46.9 yards per punt) and was also instrumental in sending the game into overtime. Carney picked up a bad snap and placed the ball for kicker's Patrick Shadle's game-tying field goal. Carney, a 2006 Ray Guy Award candidate, leads the BIG EAST and is ranked 10th nationally with 44.8 yard per punt average.
Smith Among National Tackle Leaders
Butkus and Lombardi Award candidate Kelvin Smith leads the BIG EAST and is tied for third in Division I-A in tackles per game at 14.5 per contest. The senior co-captain recorded double-digit stops for the second-consecutive game versus Iowa, recording 13 total tackles. Against Wake Forest, Smith set career highs with 16 stops and 13 solo tackles. He was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll following the Wake Forest contest.
Patterson Continues Climb up Orange Charts
Senior co-captain Perry Patterson moved up three career passing lists in Syracuse’s game against #14/15 Iowa. Patterson passed Troy Nunes for fifth all-time with 619 pass attempts. He moved passed Dave Warner for eighth all-time with 3,890 total offensive yards. Patterson also moved into sole possession of 10th place with his 15th career touchdown pass. His first-quarter connection to Taj Smith broke a tie with Chuck Zimmerman and Rick Cassata. Patterson also ranks in Syracuse’s top 10 in passing yards (3,610), completions (325), completion percentage (.523) and passing efficiency (102.7).
