SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse (3-15, 0-1 BIG EAST) lost another four-game match to a BIG EAST rival, losing to Cincinnati 3-1 (25-30, 30-19, 30-16, 30-23).

“We started off very well,” said assistant coach Carol Munger. “In the first game, Cincinnati made a lot of errors and we capitalized on that. In the second game, they started to clean it up and started getting momentum. We just couldn’t stop them.”
Junior Joscie Kaup registered 31 digs and moved into third place in school history with 1,300 career digs. Kaup passed Christen Casey who recorded 1,284 digs from 2000 to 2003. Kaup’s 31 digs were also two shy of her career high, which she recorded last season also against Cincinnati.
Junior Cheryl Cobbina led the team with 20 digs and added eight digs. Freshman Kacie MacTavish added five kills and 10 digs. Sophomore April Quigley led the team with 36 assists.
The Orange started strong, opening the first game by scoring 10 of the first 12 points. Cincinnati (10-3, 1-1 BIG EAST) quickly responded and tied the game at 11. The game was close until Syracuse used a 7-3 run to take control of the first game and win by five. With the second game tied at 15, the Bearcats outscored the Orange 15-4 to tie the match at one. Cincinnati controlled much of the third game to take a 2-1 advantage. The fourth game was a close contest throughout. The Bearcats outscored the Orange 8-3 to clinch the victory.
