Day Two Action From the Deacon Classic

Winston-Salem, N.C.- The Syracuse women’s tennis team was in action at the second day of the Deacon Classic hosted by Wake Forest. The Orange had three players in winner’s brackets in singles action and two doubles teams as well.
In doubles action, juniors Olga Votavova and Victoria Vaynberg advanced to third place match of Flight A, but lost to Spivakovsky/Piacente (UNC Charlotte), 9-8. In Flight B sophomore Maria Vasilyeva and senior Katie Bramante lost to the team of McGaffagin/Perton (Indiana), 8-2. In Flight C, seniors Ashley Lipton and Carolina Huignard lost a quarterfinals match to Voss/Messmer (Ohio State), 8-2.
The Orange was also active on the singles side. Votavova took on Yevgeniya Stupak (East Tennessee State) in Flight A, losing in three sets, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1. Also in Flight A, Vaynberg won two matches to advance to the third place match Sunday at 10:30 a.m. Vasilyeva lost her second match of the tournament in Flight B to Tara Byrne (East Tennessee State_, 4-6, 7-5, 6-2. In Flight C, Lipton won her quarterfinal match, 6-2, 6-2, but lost to Sierra Poske (Wake Forest), 6-1, 6-0. Huignard also won her quarterfinal match, 6-2, 6-1, but then lost in the semifinals to Yuliana Svivtun (Kansas).
The Deacon Classic wraps up on Sunday. The Orange will take part in the USTA Invitational October 7-9.
