The Syracuse Orange football team will look to win its third-straight game on Saturday when it hosts the Wyoming Cowboys at 1:30 p.m. Festivities begin at approximately at 11 a.m. with the Quad Walk.
“We came into the Dome there two hours and 10 minutes before the game and there were hundreds of students and they are cheering for the team again,” said head coach Greg Robinson. Even the quad walk, to have those people and all those things, we would like to think that we are just scratching the surface of what is to come. That is what motivates us.”
As Syracuse prepares for Wyoming, Robinson sees a number of similarities between the two teams, including at the running back position.
“I like their backs and they have some characteristics similar to our backs,” Robinson said. “Number 11 for them (Devin Moore) is a darting and dashing a little more like Curtis (Brinkley). Number 18 for them (Wynel Seldon) is a little thicker and shows a little more power in his game which is more like Delone (Carter). I am not saying that they are Delone and Curtis but I think there are characteristics about them that are very similar. They are good players. They are very good players.”
Another area the Orange has to focus on in replacing injured wide receiver Taj Smith. Smith will be out due to an injured collarbone and Robinson will look towards the remaining wide receivers to fill the void that he leaves.
“It is really how are we going to use Tim Lane, Rice Moss, Lavar Lobdell, Jeremy Horne, Mike Williams, Donte Davis and Daniel Bailey,” said Robinson. “Those are players that in their own ways can help at that position.”
One player that the Orange can towards to help in the passing game is tight end J.J. Nesheiwat. Nesheiwat caught a career-high two passes against Miami (OH), including his first career touchdown catch.
“He couldn’t play last year because he was a transfer so he was down on the scout team all the time,” Robinson said. “There is not better way to find out about a young person to see how they perform on those scout teams. J.J., you could tell that he could play football. So I wanted to see how he functioned in the system as a player. He did a very good job all spring. He is a good solid player for us.”
Tickets for the Wyoming game are available online (click here) and at the Carrier Dome Box Office (1-888-DOMETIX). Legendary Orange running back Joe Morris will be honored as part of Legends Day. It will be the first meeting between the schools on the gridiron.
