Orange Carries Momentum into Monday's Match Versus Albany

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Orange (2-0) aims for its third consecutive win to start the 2006 season when it hosts America East foe Albany (0-2-1) on Monday, Sept. 4 at 1:00 p.m. at the SU Soccer Stadium. Admission for the match is free. SU is coming off back-to-back games in which has scored three goals, including a 3-2 come-from-behind victory at Loyola in its most recent outing on Sept. 1.
Syracuse scoring outburst represents the first time since the 2001 season the Orange have netted at least three goals in consecutive matches.
The Orange’s newcomers are fueling the offensive resurgence. Five of the Orange’s six goals in 2006 have come from players not on last year’s roster. Sophomore transfer Kyle Hall has three goals and six points in the two games. He notched a personal-best two scores to help SU rally from two goals down to defeat the Greyhounds.
Freshmen Hansen Woodruff and Pete Hill also have goals for the Orange. The only tally not scored by a newcomer came against Niagara when junior Isaac Collings headed the ball into the back of the net to put SU in front, 3-0, on Aug. 25.
SCOUTING ALBANY
Albany, who was picked to finish sixth in the America East in a preseason vote of the league’s head coaches, started the season with two losses in a tournament hosted by San Diego State. The Great Danes lost, 3-2, in its campaign opener to the host Aztecs on Aug. 25 and were shutout by San Diego, 4-0, on Aug. 27. The Great Danes broke the losing skid, securing a scoreless draw against Colgate on Sept. 1. In the three games, Albany was outshot 65-13 in the three games. The Great Danes’ opponents hold a 25-3 advantage in corner kicks so far this season. Gaby Seguin-Gauthier and Alex Ruhe-Lischke have Albany’s two goals. Steward Ceus has played more than 170 minutes in goal and has given up five scores. The other two tallies allowed by Albany came on Alex Kuritzky’s watch.

HOME SWEET HOME
The Orange has posted a winning record at the SU Soccer Stadium in eight of its first 10 full seasons at the facility. SU went 6-4-2 at home in 2005, matching the team season record for wins at the stadium and started 2006 with a 3-1 triumph against Niagara at the facility. The Orange has won six contests at the facility three times (1996, 1998, 2005) and owns an overall SU Soccer Stadium record of 47-34-7. Prior to the opening of the building, the Orange played its home games at Coyne Field and the Carrier Dome. During the Orange’s magical run to the 1982 BIG EAST title it won a school record nine home contests, going 3-0 at Coyne Field and 6-2 in the friendly confines of the Dome. The Orange is 142-66-21 since 1980 in games contested in Syracuse.
THE SYRACUSE-ALBANY SERIES
Syracuse is 2-1 in the previous three meetings with the Great Danes. The Orange won the first meeting between the two clubs, 6-1, in 1952. The Orange also shutout Albany, 1-0, in 2003. The Great Danes won the most recent pairing, 1-0, in 2004. The Orange has outscored the Great Danes, 7-2, in the first three meetings.
