Sipaviciute raised her career total to 892 points, passing Rochelle Coleman for 20th in school history. Coleman recorded 881 points from 2002 to 2005. Sipaviciute also added six rebounds against the Huskies.
Three other Syracuse players scored in double figures. Junior Fantasia Goodwin scored 11 points while sophomore Cintia Johnson and freshman Nicole Michael each scored 10 points. Johnson also led the Orange with four assists and sophomore Lina Lisnere pulled down a team-best eight rebounds.
The Orange (8-10, 2-3 BIG EAST) started the contest strong on the defensive side, causing the Huskies (14-1, 4-0 BIG EAST) to miss their first five shots. Connecticut scored its first basket nearly two minutes into the game to tie the score at two.
Michael was unable to have her proverbial sensational game due to foul trouble in the first half. She picked up her second foul only 3:36 into the game with the Orange leading 4-2. The Huskies took advantage of the situation, using a 17-0 run to take a 15-point advantage with 10:13 left in the opening period.
Sipaviciute ended the Connecticut run, connecting on a deep jumper to pass Coleman in the SU record book. Her basket sparked a 6-0 run as the Orange pulled to within nine, 19-10, with 8:02 remaining. Michael scored four points during the run but picked up her third foul of the half with 7:17 left in the opening period.
The teams ended the first stanza with the Huskies leading 34-20. Johnson led the Orange with six first-half points and Lisnere recorded a team-best eight rebounds in the opening period.
The Huskies started the second half strong, using an 8-2 lead to gain a 20-point advantage, 42-22. Syracuse would only get as close as 17 points following the Huskies’ early run. Syracuse shot 27.3 percent (13-51) in the contest and held Connecticut to 41.1 percent (30-73) during the game.
