Freeney, Harrison, LaCasse and Thomas contributed in the Colts 38-34 victory against the New England Patriots. The Colts came back from an 18 point deficit and put 32 points on the board in the second half. It was the biggest comeback in Championship history.
Harrison caught four passes for 41 yards, including a critical 2-point conversion that tied the game at 21. Freeney and Thomas helped the Colts hold the Patriots to only 13 points in the second half. In the half the defense allowed one touchdown and held the Patriots to two field goals while forcing two turnovers. Freeney had two tackles while Thomas had one tackle. LaCasse did not play in the game.
The Colts will take on the Bears in Miami on February 4 to decide the NFL championship.
The five Colts' players bring the total number of Syracuse players to reach the Super Bowl to 30. Donavan McNabb, who reached the Super Bowl in 2004, was the most recent Orange standout to reach the game. The five Colts’ players are also trying to become the first Orange student-athletes to win the Super Bowl since Tebucky Jones in 2001.
