
2007 Homecoming: Orange Host Scarlet Knights In BIG EAST Duel

The 2007 Homecoming has arrived and one of the featured events is the the Orange football outing against BIG EAST foe Rutgers Today in the Carrier Dome (12:00 p.m., ESPN Regional). For SU, it's the third-consecutive conference game against a team that entered 2007 ranked in the national polls. Syracuse has a 1-1 BIG EAST record, while Rutgers is 0-1 in the conference. The game will be televised on ESPN Regional and will be broadcasted by the Syracuse ISP Sports Network, TK-99.5 FM. Orange All-Access and Sirus Satellite Radio will also have the broadcast. Live stats can be viewed through suathletics.com.
Honorary Captain
Returning to Syracuse as the honorary captain is three-time All-American and 1966 ECAC Player of the Year, Floyd Little. The legendary running back will honor the tradition of Syracuse football by addressing the team, participating in the Quad Walk and accompaning the Orange captains Jameel McClain and Taj Smith for the coin toss.
Little played for SU from 1964 to 1966 and accumulated 2,704 yards and 35 touchdowns on the ground. Wearing the celebrated number 44 jersey, he was the first Orange student-athlete to rush for more than 1,000 yards, gaining 1,065 on 193 carries for a 5.5 average.
2007 LetterWinners of Distinction
The University will honor the 2007 LetterWinners of Distinction during the game. The 43rd class includes Brent Clark ’50 (swimming), Bob Dixon ’38 (tennis), Richard King ’65 (football), Roger Praetorius ’73 (football), Thomas C. Schlendorf ’67 (wrestling), and James R. Shreve ’51 (basketball/football).
Remembering 1957
As part of 2007 Homecoming Weekend, the entire 1957 class will be celebrated, including the men's basketball and crew teams of that year. The '57 basketball squad was the first SU team to make the NCAA Tournament.
1964 and '67 Gridironers Return
The 1964 and ’67 Orange gridironers will also be honored. Both squads, under the direction of legendary coach Ben Schwartzwalder, finished the season ranked 12th in the Coaches Poll. The ’64 team finished with a 7-4 record and played in the Sugar Bowl, while the ’67 group finished 8-2, outscoring its opponents 210-127.
Meet Joe Morris
Former SU great, Joe Morris, will be signing autographs between 10 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. on the quad. Fans have the chance to meet the man who holds the Syracuse career-rushing record (4,299 yards), the season-rushing mark (1,372), the single-game rushing record (252 yards) and the most 100 yard games (22). Morris, the 1980 ECAC Offensive Player of the Year, is second only to Ernie Davis in career rushing touchdowns (25).
"Oh Say Can You See"
Renowned country singer Larry Gatlin will sing the National Anthem and entertain the Orange fanatics with a
halftime performance.
Tackling Hunger
For the 25th year in a row, the Salvation Army of the Syracuse Area is teaming with Syracuse University for "Dome Donation Day" to collect enough canned food and non-perishable food items to help feed 2,500 needy families during the holiday season. SU fans can drop off their food donations in barrels positioned outside of the Carrier Dome before the start of the game. "Dome Donation Day" has become a Syracuse tradition and the area's biggest single-day canned food drive.

The two schools have faced each other 37 times since the first outing in 1914. The Orange hold a commanding 28-8-1 series record and is 14-4-1 at the Carrier Dome. Since BIG EAST play began, Syracuse holds a 12-4 edge.
Two of the top five rushing performances in school history came against the Scarlet Knights. Dee Brown gained 239 yards in SU’s victory in 2000, the third highest SU single-game total, and Walter Reyes rushed for 237 yards in the Orange’s 2004 Dome triumph, which ranks fourth.
In 1998, Donovan McNabb and the Orange tied the school record, scoring 10 touchdowns in a 70-14 rout. Kicker Nate Trout went 10-for-10 to set the SU records for PATs made and attempted in a game.
Current Orange starting quarterback Andrew Robinson threw the first touchdown pass of his career in last season's contest.

Syracuse is among the nation’s best at taking care of the football when it puts it in the air. SU is tied for seventh in the nation in fewest interceptions (3). It is one of 23 teams with three picks or less on the year.
