SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The record-setting Syracuse Orange (10-2, 2-1 BIG EAST) is once again ranked 20th in this week’s STX/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll. SU was also ranked 20th in the Sept. 4 poll, but had dropped out of the rankings following its only two losses of the year. Previous to this season the Orange was last ranked on October 26, 2004, when SU was also No. 20.
The Ange Bradley era of Syracuse field hockey has already made history just 12 games into the first season. The Orange’s current record of 10-2 is the best after 12 games since 2001.
Freshman Maggie Befort’s 10 goals broke a 25-year old school record for goals scored by a freshman. Befort also tied the SU freshman record for points in season with 25.
To different players, senior Gloria Nantulya and back Leigh Fawcett have Syracuse matched a single-game record with three assists in a contest.
Syracuse travels to Penn State to take on the Nittany Lions Wednesday, Oct. 3 at 4 p.m.
