PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior field hockey back Brittany Angellella has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for her four-point performance in Syracuse’s 4-2 victory against Villanova on October 7. The senior recorded four points off one goal and two assists versus the Wildcats.
Both of Angellella’s assists, on SU’s first and last goals of the day were mirror images of each other. The senior was passed the ball off an Orange penalty corner and sent the ball towards the cage, allowing her teammates to just put their stick down and tip it into the cage. Senior forward Gloria Nantulya and freshman midfielder Maggie Befort were the beneficiaries of Angellella’s brilliant play.
The senior was in no need of a tip as she roped a shot past the Villanova defense on an identical play for her fourth goal of the year.
Angellella is now fourth on the team in points, goals and assists with 12 and four and four, respectively. Prior to this season, the senior had only one goal to her credit.
Syracuse jumped to the top of the BIG EAST standings after a 1-1 week pushed its overall record to 11-3 (3-1 BIG EAST). The Orange saw its three-game win streak snapped by a 3-1 defeat at No. 9 Penn State October. 3. SU rebounded to beat Villanova 4-2 at J.S. Coyne Field October 7. The win versus the Wildcats ended VU’s seven-game winning streak.
Syracuse will attempt to maintain its spot atop the league standings as it travels to Providence October 12 and Yale October 14.
