Holmes' Performance Earns Him A BIG EAST Honor

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Freshman cornerback and kick returner Mike Holmes was named to the weekly honor roll by the BIG EAST for his performance against then No. 13/12 West Virginia. He returned three kickoffs for 118 yards, including a career-long 64 yard return. On defense Holmes registered a game- and career-high 13 tackles, including eight solo.
"Michael Holmes fit his role very well," said head coach Greg Robinson during his Sunday press conference. "He played from sideline to sideline and really did a lot of things well."
Holmes, a Jacksonville, Fla., native, ranks fourth in the BIG EAST and 39th nationally with 26.1 yards per kick return. This season he has returned eight kicks for 209 yards.
As a unit, the Syracuse kick returners rank first in the BIG EAST and 14th nationally by averaging 25.9 yards per return.
