Fawcett, Nantulya Named to 2007 NFHCA Division I All-Region Mideast Team

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Two members of Syracuse University’s field hockey team have been named to the 2007 NFHCA Division I All-Region Mideast Team. Graduate student and midfielder Leigh Fawcett was awarded a spot on the first team and senior forward Gloria Nantulya was honored with a spot on the second team.
This honor just adds to the many achievements of both Fawcett and Nantulya. Fawcett also earned BIG EAST Conference First-Team accolades and was also selected to the BIG EAST Championship All-Tournament Team. She is fifth in the nation and second in the BIG EAST in assists per game (.79) and holds the second place spot on SU’s all-time single-season chart for assists with 15. Fawcett was also one of 21 individuals selected to the Scotland Senior Women’s Squad which will represent Scotland in international competition.
Nantulya is also no stranger to success. She earned BIG EAST Conference Second-Team honors and was also awarded the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week on September 17. Nantulya also stands out on a national level; she is 30th in the nation in points per game (1.58), 44th in goals per game (.58) and 47th in assists per game (.42). She is fifth in the BIG EAST in points and goals per game and ninth in assists. Nantulya is also ranked eight on SU’s all-time single-season points list.
Fawcett and Nantulya are two of 32 players recognized on the First and Second Mideast Teams. The NFHCA named 80 athletes from five regions overall for first and second team honors.
