PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior quarterback Cameron Dantley was named to the weekly honor roll by the BIG EAST Monday for his performance at Pittsburgh. The Silver Spring, Md., native, came off the bench to start the second half and attempted to mount a comeback by orchestrating two scoring drives.
Dantley had a career day by going 15-of-27 for 189 yards and touchdowns. With the Orange trailing, 10-3, with 8:45 remaining in the third quarter, he connected with junior receiver Taj Smith for a 56-yard touchdown pass to draw the score even. The pass was the longest of Dantley's career.
With time running out, Dantley moved the Orange 63 yards on 10 plays in just 1:35 and found sophomore receiver Mike Williams in the corner of the endzone to pull the Orange within three (20-17) with 1:46 remaining.
Dantley has played in three games this season and has gone 18-31 for 212 yards and a touchdown. He made the team as a walk-on in 2005 and earned a scholarship for the 2007 season.
The Orange hosts South Florida on Saturday, Oct. 10 at noon (ESPN Regional). Tickets are available online (click here) or at the Carrier Dome Box Office (888-DOMETIX). Fans are invited to use the ‘Print at Home’ ticket feature to avoid waiting in line at the Dome on game day.
