SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The 2007 Orange field hockey and men’s soccer seasons came to an end during the week behind, while the Syracuse volleyball team is gearing up for a playoff push in the final week of the regular season. The Syracuse men and women’s cross country teams await the much-anticipated Northeast Regional on Saturday, November 10 in Boston, Mass. The field hockey team’s run in the BIG EAST Tournament concluded on Saturday following a 2-0 loss against No. 4 Connecticut. The SU men and women’s rowing teams posted solid performances as hosts of the Syracuse Invitational on Saturday. The Orange men’s soccer season came to a close on Saturday after a narrow 1-0 overtime loss at DePaul. The SU swimming and diving squads bested Boston University in dual-meet action. The Syracuse volleyball team will look to rebound and re-position itself in the BIG EAST playoff picture following back-to-back losses at No. 22 St. John’s and Connecticut.
The Orange men and women’s cross country teams’ hopes of qualifying for the NCAA Championship hang in the balance and depend on the Northeast Regional on Saturday, November 10 at Boston College. The SU men are coming off of a fifth-place finish at the BIG EAST Championship, while the women posted a program-best fourth-place tally.

Graduate student Leigh Fawcett was named to the BIG EAST All-Tournament team following the Orange’s 2-0 semifinal loss to No. 4 Connecticut on Saturday. Junior goalkeeper Heather Hess collected 10 saves against the Huskies. First-year Syracuse head coach Ange Bradley was selected the BIG EAST Coach of the Year at the conference’s annual banquet on Friday.

The Orange men’s soccer season came to a close on Saturday following a 1-0 overtime loss at Red Division rival DePaul. Luis Martinez led the Syracuse offense with a team-high four shots as junior netminder Robert Cavicchia tallied four saves against the Blue Demons.

The Syracuse men and women’s swimming and diving teams closed out the fall dual-meet season against Boston University on Saturday. The men’s team posted a 130-111 victory against the Terriers while the women lost by a slim three-point margin, despite seven event triumphs. Kuba Kotynia posted a first-place finishes in the 200 IM and the 200 breast stroke. Natalie Mazzetta claimed three first-place finishes in the 200 freestyle, 200 butterfly and 500 freestyle.

The Syracuse volleyball team will look to rebound from back-to-back 3-0 losses at conference foes No. 22 St. John’s and Connecticut on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Senior Cheryl Cobbina powered the Orange attack against the Red Storm and Huskies with a combined 25 kills and a 4.17 kills per game average. Syracuse will host in-state rival Siena on Tuesday, November 6 at 7:00 p.m. The Orange closes out the BIG EAST schedule with two critical matches at home against Villanova on Friday, November 9 at 7:00 p.m. and Seton Hall on Sunday, November 11 at 2:00 p.m.
