The delivery van, tightly packed with the turkeys donated for Orange touchdowns, backed up to the Food Bank of Central New York warehouse. Syracuse football student-athletes Arthur Jones, Nick Santiago, Vincenzo Giruzzi, Darnell Pratt and Lamar Middleton did the heavy lifting by unloading the delivery into the warehouse so Food Bank of Central New York staff members can prepare baskets for families in the 11 county region the Food Bank services.
"It means a lot to give back to the community where I am from," said Pratt, who attended Nottingham High School.
The Orange student-athletes unloaded the delivery of nearly 100 turkeys and visited with staff from the Food Bank of CNY and P & C Groceries, which donated the turkeys.
“This is a great opportunity for us to give back to the community in this season of giving,” Giruzzi said.
In its second year, the Touchdowns for Turkeys promotion provides turkeys for every Orange touchdown scored in the Carrier Dome.
"Growing up in Newark we were not as fortunate and a lot of people helped us," Middleton said. "It feels good to grow up and to be able to give back. I am a people person. I love to help others. I could do this every day."
