
Syracuse Upsets #67 Kansas, 4-3

Winston-Salem, N.C.-The Syracuse women's tennis team upset #67 Kansas, 4-3; giving head coach Luke Jensen his first career collegiate victory. The Orange won two singles matches, split the doubles matches, and benefitted from Kansas injuries, which forced the Jayhawks to forfeit two matches.
Senior Ashley Lipton, who did not play against Wake Forest on Friday night due to injury, came back against Kansas and won at No. 5 singles, 6-3, 6-4. Lipton took sole possession of 10th place on the Syracuse all-time wins list with 135 career victories. Junior Olga Votavova won her second singles match of the season at No. 1, 6-1, 6-3. Kansas forfeitted No. 6 singles, giving the Orange three wins.
In doubles play, junior Katherine Zawadzki and freshman Chelsea Jones won their first match of the season at No. 2, 8-4. Votavova and sophomore Maria Vasilyeva lost at No. 1, 8-5, but Kansas forfeitted No. 3 doubles, giving the Orange the point.
Syracuse (2-2) hosts in-state rival Buffalo on Friday at 5 p.m. in Jensen's home debut.
