“I was pleased with today's racing as it was a good end to a very productive week of practice,” said head coach Kris Sanford. “Our goal was to row our own race plan executing a very relaxed rhythm and I thought that everyone did a great job in less than ideal water conditions.”
The Orange competed in two 2k races during the scrimmage. Syracuse’s varsity eight defeated the Bulls, recording times of 6:20.9 and 6:40.7. The Orange won both races by more than five seconds. The second varsity eight, novice eight and varsity/novice four combo also emerged victorious in Tennessee.
“The Buffalo crews proved to be very gutsy and rowed with a lot of fight and I was happy to see that our crews stayed controlled and didn't get flustered,” Sanford said. “My expectation of this team is that we go out and learn from every race we are in throughout the season so that we can put everything together at BIG EAST and Eastern Sprints and see how far we can get nationally. We are a young team with lots of high goals and now we just need to continue to chip away at them!”
The Orange open the 2007 regular season on March 31. Syracuse will compete against Cornell and Yale in Ithaca, N.Y.
