SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Senior Ashley Pike (Watertown, N.Y.) is the third different Syracuse player to earn national player of the week recognition this week. Pike was named the Inside Lacrosse Player of the Week after leading the Orange to victories against Towson and sixth-ranked Notre Dame. Senior Chelsea Strodel (Skaneateles, N.Y.) was named the WomensLacrosse.com Player of the Week and junior Bridget Looney (Silver Spring, Md.) earned the honor from WomensLax.com. In addition, Pike was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week and Strodel earned the conference’s Defensive Player of the Week honor.
Pike totaled half of her team-leading 18 goals on the season last week. She opened the week by scoring a career-best four goals at Towson, helping lead the Orange to victory. Her career-high of four goals was short-lived, as she topped her Towson performance with five scores against the Fighting Irish. Pike also added two ground balls, three draw controls and two caused turnovers against Notre Dame.
Pike leads the Orange with 18 goals and is second with 23 points. She ranks seventh in the BIG EAST with 2.57 goals per game and sixth with 3.29 points per game.
Pike and the 11th-ranked Orange resume action on Saturday, March 24, beginning a four-game road trip in Storrs, Conn. Syracuse will square off against BIG EAST-foe Connecticut at 1 p.m.
