SYRACUSE, NY -- Syracuse senior forward Demetris Nichols has earned honorable mention All-America recognition from the Associated Press. A 6-8 forward, Nichols was a 2006-07 first-team All-BIG EAST Conference selection and was named all-district by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and the United States Basketball Writers of America (USBWA).
Nichols was the only SU player to start all 35 games in 2006-07. He led the team in scoring average (18.9 ppg.), three-point baskets (100), three-point field-goal percentage (.417) and free-throw percentage (.850). Nichols tallied at least 10 points in 32-of-35 outings.
He tallied a career-high 37 points in a win against St. John's this winter. It was his second 30-point outing of the campaign and surpassed the 31 points he had versus Drexel.
Nichols helped the Orange to a 24-11 record this season, including a berth in the National Invitation Tournament (NIT). Syracuse advanced to the NIT Quarterfinals before losing at Clemson, 74-70.
