BALTIMORE, Md. – The 13th-ranked Syracuse Orange (3-4) put together a furious comeback against 11th-ranked Loyola (5-2), scoring three goals in the final minute of play, but could not tie the score at the end, losing to the Greyhounds, 11-10, on Saturday, March 31 at Diane Geppi-Aikens Field. The loss snaps a five-game winning streak for the Orange against Loyola.
Trailing 11-7 with just 1:01 remaining in the game, Syracuse scored three times in the span of 39 seconds to pull within a goal. Senior Danny Brennan won the final faceoff, his fourth straight during the Orange run, and Loyola was called for a push, giving Syracuse a man-up advantage with eight seconds left on the clock.
SU called timeout to set up a play. On the restart, Hardy found sophomore Kenny Nims in front of the cage, but Loyola goalie Alex Peaty made the save at the buzzer to give the Greyhounds the win.
Leveille led the Orange with four goals and an assist for a season-high five points. He scored three of Syracuse's five first half goals and extended his consecutive points streak to 33 games. Hardy was the only other Orange player with multiple goals, scoring twice. Nims achieved a career-high with three assists and also had a goal. Panarelli's assist on Brooks' score marked his first point of the season.
Syracuse led 4-3 after the first quarter. Leveille had three goals in the period, scoring the game's first marker courtesy of a Nims assist at the 11:39 mark. Loyola tied the game nine seconds later and took a 2-1 lead with less than eight minutes left in the peiod. Graduate student Greg Rommel scored a man-up goal off another assist from Nims to tie the game, and Leveille added two more goals to complete the Syracuse scoring spurt.
