Field Hockey Wins National Academic Team Award

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – For the second consecutive year the Syracuse University’s field has been named as one of 48 NCAA Division I programs to earn the 2006 National Team Award from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association for having a team cumulative grade point average of 3.0 and higher.
Additionally, eight Orange student-athletes were named to the 2006 NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad. Senior Jess Wreski (Middletown, P.A./Lower Dauphin) was selected to the team for the fourth-consecutive year, while senior Meg Ryan (Lancaster, P.A./Hempfield) earned an appearance for the second straight year. Junior Gloria Nantulya (Nairobi, Kenya/ Brookline H.S.) was also named to the academic squad for the third consecutive year, while juniors Jessica Lerew (York Springs, P.A./Bermudian Springs) and Lucy McGregor (Christchurch, New Zealand/ St. Michaels) made their first appearance with the academic squad. Sophomore Cassie Barry (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) made academic squad for the second straight year and freshmen Kim Coyle (Silver Springs, MD/James Hubert Blake) and Kasey Flohr (Fairfield, P.A./Fairfield) both represented Syracuse on the national academic squad for the first time in their collegiate careers.
The National Academic Squad honors student-athletes who have attained a cumulative GPA of 3.30 for the first semester of the 2006-2007 academic year. Furthermore the National Academic Team Award stands to recognize institutions that achieve a cumulative GPA pf 3.0 or higher as well.
