Syracuse has posted a winning season each of its first nine seasons and has qualified for postseason action six times. SU’s nine-consecutive winning seasons is the sixth-longest string in the history of the NCAA.
Dove led the Orange with a career-high six points on five goals and one assist. Quillinan also scored five goals, matching a career high. Sophomore Katie Rowan (Delmar, N.Y.) tallied three goals bringing her within three points of becoming the ninth player in school history to record 100 career points. Junior Kristin Brady (Binghamton, N.Y.) scored twice and senior Jill DePetris added one goal to round out the scoring for SU.
Looney had a record setting performance on the defensive end with eight caused turnovers, an SU single-game record. Junior Christina Gibson (Jarrettsville, Md.) added two caused turnovers as Syracuse forced an opponent season-high 24 miscues. Sophomore Amber Pardee-Hill (Lewiston, N.Y.) had a strong performance in the cage for Syracuse recording a career high 15 saves.
The Orange struck first scoring two goals in just over two minutes. Dove netted the first goal 1:51 into the contest and Brady added her first of the evening just 28 seconds later. Colgate answered by scoring three-consecutive goals to take the lead, 3-2. Syracuse rallied back and scored the next eight goals. Quillinan led the charge by scoring three of the goals while Rowan contributed two. Dove and Brady both scored, tallying their second goals of the game, and DePetris added a goal to give the Orange a commanding 10-3 lead. Colgate’s Ashley Didio scored with less than a minute remaining in the second period giving the Orange a 10-4 lead at the half.
The Syracuse offense continued to dominate the game in the second half. Quillinan, Dove, and Rowan each scored, tallying the first three goals of the second half to increase the Orange lead to 13-4. The Orange added three goals after that point en route to a 16-8 victory.
