WINNING NO. 100
With its victory over Colgate on Wednesday, the Orange won its 100th game in the program’s history. Head coach Lisa Miller has guided the Orange during all 100 of its victories.
The Orange won its 100th game in just its 10th season of play. Syracuse owns an all-time record of 100-51 (.662) as SU has enjoyed one of the most successful tenures during the past 10 seasons. Syracuse has posted a winning season each of its first nine years and has qualified for postseason action six times. SU’s nine-consecutive winning seasons is the sixth-longest string in the history of the NCAA.
DISRUPTIVE PRESENCE
Junior Bridget Looney is forcing opposing players to turn the ball over at an alarming rate. Against Colgate, Looney set an SU record by forcing eight opponent miscues. Carrie Soults (at New Hampshire, 1999) and Jessica Trombley (at Stanford, 2002) shared the previous record of six.
Looney is also approaching the single-season record of 29 caused turnovers. She has recorded 23 caused turnovers this season, six shy of the mark set by Carrie Bolduc in 1999. Looney currently ranks second in the BIG EAST with 2.30 caused turnovers per game.
DOMEINATION
Many teams enter the Carrier Dome but very few can claim to leave the Loud House as a winner. Syracuse owns an all-time record of 58-16 (.784 winning percentage) at the Carrier Dome. This season, SU is 3-1 in home games, defeating Albany, Binghamton and sixth-ranked Notre Dame while losing to No. 9 Virginia. Last season, the Orange won 8-of-11 games contested in the Dome, including two against ranked opponents.
SYRACUSE – RUTGERS SERIES
The Orange and the Scarlet Knights have met each season since SU’s inception in 1998. After losing the first two games in the series, Syracuse has won six of the past seven meetings, including the last four.
In last year’s matchup, No. 14 Syracuse cruised to an 18-8 victory against Rutgers. Katie Rowan, Gaddy Fortune and Kristin Brady all set career highs in goals. Rowan netted six goals, Fortune scored five times and Brady posted four goals. Syracuse outshot Rutgers, 33-13, and held the advantage in draw controls, 17-5.
SCOUTING THE SCARLET KNIGHTS
Rutgers has won its last five games and enters the game with an 11-2 record and No. 18 national ranking. The Scarlet Knights are coming off an 18-3 victory against Manhattan on Tuesday. Rutgers scored the final 11 goals of the game to cruise to the victory. Katie Batiuk led the team with six points on five goals and one assist. Erika Page stopped four shots to earn the victory.
Batiuk has led the RU offense, posting a team-best 42 points and 36 goals. Nina Frankoski is right behind Batiuk, registering 36 points on 32 goals and four assists. Brooke Cantwell (21g, 8a), Katy Lawrence (23g, 3a) and Michelle Poole (18g, 4a) have also recorded at least 20 points for the Scarlet Knights. Meghan Flanagan paces the Rutgers offense with a team-leading 12 assists.
Paige and Sandra Abel have split time in the goal for Rutgers. Abel has played in all 13 games, with 11 starts, and owns a goals against average of 10.40 and a save percentage of .444. Paige has played in 11 games, including two starts, and has posted a goals against average of 6.73 and a save percentage of .588.
