Orange Opens Home Schedule on Tuesday

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse University softball team (10-24, 3-5 BIG EAST) opens the home portion of its schedule with a doubleheader against Binghamton (4-12, 1-2 America East) on Tuesday, April 3 at Skytop Softball Stadium. The Orange is coming off four consecutive losses at No. 18/23 DePaul and Notre Dame last weekend. Senior Erin Gray had Syracuse’s best weekend offensively, ending the weekend with a .375 batting average, going a combined 3-for-8 with three RBI, one run scored and one double. Junior RHP Chanel Roehner pitched a team-high 12.0 innings with six strikeouts.

The Bearcats have lost three of their last five games, but defeated Hartford, 6-2, in their last outing on Sunday. Christin Quijano leads BU with a .303 batting average and Cyrilla Suker has a team-best 3.82 earned run average.

Syracuse is 7-1 all-time, including a perfect 4-0 record at home against Binghamton. The Orange has won the last four meetings and has outscored the Bearcats 27-3 in those contests. BU defeated SU, 1-0, in nine innings in Binghamton on April 11, 2001.

The Softball Stadium at Skytop has been an intimidating place for opposing teams. The Orange is 61-32 (.656) in seven seasons at the facility. SU was 14-3 (.667) at the SU Softball Stadium in 2006. The Orange’s 14 home victories in 2006 is a team record. SU is 31-25 in BIG EAST Conference games played at the facility and has posted a 20-8 (.714) mark in home league games the last three years. Syracuse is 4-3 all-time in home openers, including a 10-3 victory against Binghamton in the first game ever played at Skytop on April 6, 2000.
