The Syracuse novice 8 crew won the BIG EAST title for the second-consecutive season.
Women’s Rowing Places Third at BIG EAST Championship; Novice 8 Wins Conference Title

Worcester, Mass. – The Syracuse women’s rowing team totaled 101 points at the BIG EAST Rowing Championship, the second-most points at the conference’s championship. Notre Dame won its fourth-consecutive title with 118 points and the Orange tied with Louisville for second with 101 points. The Cardinals won the second-place tiebreaker by finishing higher in the varsity 8 race.
The SU novice 8 crew took home the title for the second-consecutive season. The Orange finished in 6:52.15, more than six seconds ahead of second-place Notre Dame. The Irish recorded a time of 6:58.14.
In the varsity 8 grand final, Syracuse placed third with a mark of 6:46.25. Notre Dame won the race, recording a time of 6:31.85, and Louisville finished second with a mark of 6:35.40.
The Orange also finished third in the second varsity 8 (6:56.95), varsity 4 (7:45.41) and second varsity four (7:46.14) races. Syracuse placed fourth in the novice four race (8:00.54).
Syracuse’s 101-point total is 25-point improvement from last season’s competition. The Orange recorded 76 points at the 2006 BIG EAST Championship en route to a third place finish and was 27 points behind second-place Louisville.
Syracuse is back in action on May 13, competing at the Eastern Sprints in Camden, N.J.
