KOHN SEEKS TITLE NUMBER FOUR
Senior Aulton Kohn is seeking his fourth BIG EAST title this weekend. Kohn has won all three of his previous titles at the indoor championship, claiming the 2005 and 2006 60m dash crown and winning the 2007 200m dash title. Kohn, who missed last year’s outdoor season due to an injury, hopes to duplicate his 200m dash title and is also expected to compete in the 100m dash championship.
STONGEST COMPETITION FROM OWN TEAMMATE?
Kohn’ strongest competitor could be from his own teammate. Sophomore Michael LeBlanc is also expected to contend in both the 100m dash and 200m events. LeBlanc, who won the 55m dash crown at the IC4A championship earlier this season, broke Kohn’s BIG EAST record in the 60m dash.
JUMPING JILLIAN
Junior Jillian Drouin is going after two titles this weekend. Drouin, who was named a Remembrance Scholar earlier in the week, won the 2006 high jump competition during the indoor championship and finished second in the pentathlon during the 2007 indoor meet. The holder of three school records, Drouin is expected to contend in both the heptathlon and high jump competitions.
DISTANCE DOMINANCE
The distance team is also expected to have many strong showings at the BIG EAST Championship. Junior Kyle Heath will run his second-ever 3,000m steeplechase at the championship. In his first running of the event, Heath broke the school record by nearly 20 seconds and earned an invitation to the NCAA Regional.
Other strong competitiors for the Orange are sophomore Nana Sang-Bender and freshman Maegan Krifchin. Sang-Bender owns the school record in the 1,500m run and Krifchin won the 2007 ECAC Championship in the 1,000m Run.
2006 RECAP
Last year, the SU women’s track and field team finished third in the Championship with 87 points. This marked the second time the squad placed third since 1990. Senior Johvonne Hernandez earned her second Most Outstanding Field Performance award, sharing the honor with Georgetown’s Buky Bamigboye. The men finished 11th overall with 31 points last season.
