Syracuse football student-athlete Jawad Nesheiwat was granted a waiver by the NCAA, clearing him to participate with the Orange for the 2007 season. The waiver provides Nesheiwat an extension of the five-year period the NCAA allows student-athletes to participate in four seasons of intercollegiate competition.
“I am really excited for Jawad,” said head coach Greg Robinson. “He has worked so hard. He made such a commitment by coming to Syracuse as a walk-on and then earning a scholarship, all while working on his studies in pre-med. The additional year gives him an opportunity to work that much harder in school and to reap the rewards of all of his hard work on the football field. It is really great having a person like Jawad back for his senior year. He is one of the more popular guys on our football team because of his maturity and, on top of that, we think he is a talented player.”
In 2006, Nesheiwat caught 11 passes for 56 yards and two touchdowns for the Orange. He enrolled at Syracuse in September 2005 and redshirted the season after playing at Western Carolina in 2004 and at Hudson Valley Community College in 2003.
