SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Junior Jillian Drouin garnered U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Northeast Division Field Athlete of the Year accolades after an impressive 2007 outdoor season. Drouin set two school records and won a BIG EAST Championship during her junior campaign.
Drouin won the heptathlon at the 2007 BIG EAST Outdoor Championship, recording 5,890 points. Her total is the second-highest total in the nation this season and set school and BIG EAST Championship records. Drouin easily surpassed the school record by 603 points and the BIG EAST mark by 480 points.
Drouin set personal bests in six of the seven heptathlon events during the BIG EAST Championship, including a record-setting performance in the high jump. Drouin recorded a height of 1.84m, breaking her own school record of 1.81m. Her height also ranks among the nation’s best, standing as 10th-highest mark in the NCAA this season.
An all-conference honoree in the high jump, Drouin picked up BIG EAST Most Outstanding Field Performer for her accomplishments at the championship. She also excels off the track as much as she does on it. Drouin was named a 2007-08 Syracuse University Remembrance Scholar, receiving one of the most prestigious scholarships awarded by the University. She has also participated in numerous ‘Cuse Cares Community Service Projects and is an active member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Drouin looks to add to her growing list of accomplishments this week at the NCAA Championship, where she will compete in the heptathlon and high jump, beginning on Wednesday.
