Chaney Joins Orange Athletic Training Staff

Syracuse assistant director of athletics for sports medicine Tim Neal has named Kathleen Chaney assistant athletic trainer. Chaney, who earned her Master’s degree from Syracuse while serving as a graduate assistant, will work with the men’s and women’s track and field teams, as well as with special events. She will also be responsible for administrative duties.
"Kathleen Chaney is a fine addition to our full-time athletic training staff,” Neal said. “Her experience, education, and familiarity with the Syracuse University sports medicine operation are assets that will contribute to the continued success of our operation. Kathleen has gained the trust of the student-athletes, sports medicine staff, physicians, coaches, and parents through her work. I look forward to her growing levels of responsibility in the future."
A 2003 graduate of the Michigan State University, Chaney earned her bachelor’s degree in kinesiology with a concentration in athletic training. She received her graduate degree in exercise science from Syracuse University. While at Michigan State University she was awarded the Ray J. Saltzman award in 2003 as student athletic trainer of the year.
As a graduate assistant, Chaney worked with the Orange women’s volleyball and women’s lacrosse teams. Prior to joining the Syracuse staff, Chaney was a certified athletic trainer at Portland High School while associated with Ingham Regional Medical Center from 2004-2005. Chaney administered help to injured and uninjured athletes and provided leadership to high school student trainers. She worked with 17 varsity, seven junior varsity and five freshman teams throughout the scholastic year. Chaney also served as a floating athletic trainer at Plymouth Physical Therapy from 2003-2004.
