SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Former Syracuse men’s soccer star Ryan Hickey was one of 15 field players picked to the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA) National Select Team after participating in a four-day training camp in California.
Hickey earned exhibition game starts as an outside midfielder and also saw time as a defensive central midfielder at the camp. His play helped the team score an impressive 2-0 win against the reserves from Chivas USA of Major League Soccer (MLS).
Next up for the team is a trip to Ireland from July 21-28 for a series of friendlies, including a match with Ireland’s U-23 national team.
Hickey was a four-year letterwinner with the Orange (2000, 2002-04) and tallied a goal and two assists in 60 career matches, mostly on defense. He was a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District selection and was one of three team captains in 2004.
Following his playing career, Hickey remained with the Orange as a graduate assistant coach for two years while earning his master’s degree in public administration. He currently works for PricewaterhouseCoopers in Washington, D.C.
