Throughout the entire training camp video cameras have been rolling, which allows the coaches and student-athletes to evaluate their performances. During head coach Greg Robinson’s press conference following the morning practice he talked about what he saw while watching yesterday’s film.
"In the short yardage scrimmage it was very competitive," Robinson said. "I thought that offensively we moved the ball well. We threw the ball a couple times in short yardage situations well. Defensively we had a couple of good stops, which is good to see. I thought both sides really had moments. As far as the afternoon scrimmage we didn’t give our first unit as many reps as we did our second and third units. I think that was good because I got to see the offensive group and the defensive group and that second group, at different times, really looked like they were playing well together. The third group, we limited what we did with them so they could just go out there and play. They haven’t been getting as many turns as the older players, so you kind and wait and see what’s going on. I thought we gained something from it because we get a feel for where people are."
While analyzing the film, Robinson has seen some good things from individuals, but understands the team, as a whole, produces the results.
"I don’t like to single out," Robinson said. "You can get a misnomer – a guy catches a ball well, protection was great and the quarterback makes a throw and all that (contributes). I think that Andrew (Robinson) is doing a very good job. Cam (Dantley) did some nice things yesterday at the quarterback position. Our young guys they had their first real live situation and there were highlights and lowlights. On the offensive line, Marvin McCall was back into it yesterday and there was some very good things done with that group. Corey Chavers and Larry Norton functioned well yesterday. Then on the defensive side of the ball, a lot of good things. They gave up a big play on a run where a couple of guys were out of position and also on a pass play. I’d like to give credit to the offensive, but in fact, it was more of the defense. They know they can’t have explosive plays."
