Kaup On Record's Doorstep After 3-1 Orange Win

AKRON, OH – Senior Joscie Kaup tallied a team-high 29 digs and senior Cheryl Cobbina collected a team-high 25 kills as Syracuse (3-3) closed out day one of the Sheraton Hilton Invitational, hosted by the University of Akron, with a 3-1 win against Wright State.
After tallying 50 digs on the day, including 21 against Mississippi in game one, Kaup now stands just five digs shy of the all-time career record for the Orange. Former Syracuse player Rachel Watson (1996-99) holds the all-time record with 1,791 career digs.
Redshirt-junior April Quigley led the Orange attack with a team-best 39 assists while sophomore Samantha Ainsworth added 18. Sophomore Kacie MacTavish paired 21 kills with 22 digs.
The Orange stormed to a 30-22 win in game one behind five kills apiece from Cobbina and junior Brittany Kern. Quigley tallied 10 assists and Kaup collected 13 digs.
Syracuse put the Raiders in a 2-0 hole after a 30-27 win in game two. Ainsworth was the catalyst behind the Orange offense with 11 assists while MacTavish buried eight kills. Defensively, Kaup recorded seven digs.
After sustaining a 30-27 loss in game three, the Orange responded to finish off Wright State in game four, 30-27. Cobbina and Quigley led the Syracuse charges with eight kills and 16 assists, respectively. Kaup and MacTavish each tallied seven digs.
Syracuse freshman Mindy Stanislovaitis tallied eight kills while sophomore Sarah Morton and Kern added seven. Sophomore Shanetha McLaurin totaled five digs.
The Orange returns to action Saturday at 1:30 p.m. against host Akron.
