Orange Tabbed Fourth in Preseason Field Hockey Poll
8/7/2007 4:19:55 PM | Field Hockey
PROVIDENCE – The Syracuse University field hockey was picked to finish fourth in the 2007 BIG EAST Preseason Poll released Tuesday, August 07, 2007. The league’s seven head coaches voted in the poll with the defending BIG EAST Champion Connecticut Huskies collecting the top position. The 2006 BIG EAST regular season co-champions Louisville and Providence were tied for second, followed by Syracuse, Rutgers, Villanova and Georgetown.
Syracuse (10-9, 2-4 BIG EAST) received 18 points, for fourth place in the poll. The Orange and first-year head coach Ange Bradley look to build on the late season success of 2006, as they were the only conference team to finish on a winning streak – taking the final two games.
The Orange will have a much different look in 2007. Bradley welcomes back 11 letterwinners and five starters from last season’s squad. Only SU’s third coach in program history, Bradley brings with her 15 newcomers to the Orange program. The priority in the fall will be the implementation of a new system along with the molding of SU’s 11 returnees and 15 newcomers into one unit. Bradley looks to the experience and leadership of the three returning seniors and the three juniors to pave the way for this new chapter of Syracuse field hockey.
The Orange opens its season at Colgate on Saturday, August 25 and will play its first home game a day later when Massachusetts visits Coyne Field at 2 p.m. SU begins BIG EAST play against Rutgers on Friday, September 14 at 6 p.m.
The BIG EAST Field Hockey Championship will take place on Saturday, November 3 and Sunday, November 4. Syracuse will host the four team event, seeded by conference point total. The champion will receive the leagues’ automatic bid to the 16-team NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship.
