In 1985 he was a co-captain and was named Co-Player of the Year in the ECAC.

He received a National Football Foundation Scholarship for academic excellence, was a Rossman Scholar for Humanities, a Syracuse University Scholar, an NCAA Top Six Scholar, Phi Beta Kappa and co-valedictorian of his class.
