PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Sophomore Hansen Woodruff (Stuart, Fla.) was picked to the BIG EAST Men’s Soccer Weekly Honor Roll on Monday, Sept. 17. Woodruff had a hand in three of SU’s four goals last week and averaged 2.5 points per game. He netted the Orange’s only score in a 1-1 draw at Albany on Sept. 12 and tallied a goal and an assist in a 3-0 shutout of Fordham on Sept. 16.
Against Albany, Woodruff scored the game-tying goal in the 53rd minute on a penalty kick to help the Orange earn a draw. In SU’s home opener Sunday versus Fordham, he assisted on SU’s first goal of the second half, connecting with junior Kyle Hall (Toronto, Ontario) 4:05 into the period. Woodruff put the game away less than two minutes later, scoring the Orange’s third goal of the afternoon.
Woodruff is SU’s active leading goal scorer with 11 career tallies. He has a point in five of the team’s six matches in 2007 and multiple points in four of those contests. His efforts have helped the Orange to its best start since 1986 when it went 6-0-1 to start the year.
Syracuse (3-0-3) begins the conference portion of its schedule Friday, Sept. 21. The Orange will host Pittsburgh at 7:00 p.m. at the SU Soccer Stadium.
