LOUISVILLE, KY – Sophomore Kacie MacTavish led the Orange with 11 kills and added seven digs in Syracuse’s 3-0 loss in BIG EAST action at Louisville on Saturday. Senior Cheryl Cobbina tallied nine kills and seven digs for SU.
Sophomore Sarah Morton posted four kills and a team-best five total blocks. Morton’s defensive performance marks the sixth straight time, and 10th overall this season, that she has led the SU front-line in total blocks. Freshman Mindy Stanislovaitis, who has started 11 of her 14 matches-played, tallied seven kills.
Defensively, senior Joscie Kaup led the Orange with 11 digs. Sophomore Shanetha McLaurin added six digs. Junior Brittany Kern paired three total blocks with six kills.
Syracuse (10-7, 1-1) found itself in a two-game hole after losing frames one and two by an average of just 3.5 points. Kern led the SU offense in game one with four kills as redshirt-junior April Quigley collected nine assists.
The Orange claimed a 16-15 lead in game two following a service ace from McLaurin. MacTavish’s fourth kill of the stanza pushed the SU advantage to 21-19 before the Cardinals ran off nine of the next 11 points. Cobbina and Stanislovaitis each tallied three kills as sophomore Samantha Ainsworth dished 13 of her squad-high 22 assists.
MacTavish paced the Orange offense in game three with a club-best four kills, while Cobbina added three.
