CINCINNATI, Ohio – Sophomore Sarah Morton paired a season-best and team-high 11 total blocks with six kills in the Orange’s 3-0 loss in BIG EAST action at Cincinnati on Sunday. Freshman Mindy Stanislovaitis powered the Syracuse offense with a club-best 10 kills.

Sophomore Samantha Ainsworth led the SU attack with a team-high 30 assists. Sophomore Kacie MacTavish and senior Cheryl Cobbina each tallied seven kills for the Orange. Cobbina continues to climb SU’s career kills chart and is now just five shy of seventh place all-time.

Junior Brittany Kern complimented Morton’s efforts at the net after coupling five blocks with three kills. Senior Joscie Kaup paced the Orange defense for the 14^th time this season with a team-high 14 digs. Cobbina totaled nine digs as MacTavish added seven.

Morton and Stanislovaitis led the SU offense with three kills in a 30-23 loss in game one. Morton’s .429 attack percentage led Syracuse. The Orange cut the Bearcats’ advantage to 25-21 before the hosts ran off five of the match’s final seven points.

Stanislovaitis paced the Orange attack with three kills in the second frame as Cobbina and MacTavish each added two.

Syracuse (10-8, 1-2) led by as much as 11-5 in the third game as MacTavish and Stanilovaitis led the charge with four kills apiece. Six SU players tallied at least one kill as Ainsworth served up 14 assists. Cincinnati closed out the match with a narrow, 30-27 win.

The Orange begins a season-long, eight-match homestand on Friday, October 5 against BIG EAST foe South Florida at 7:00 p.m. Syracuse will meet Georgetown on Sunday, October 7 at 2:00 p.m. in the season’s final contest in Manley Field House.
