SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Senior Bridget Looney, a midfielder on the women’s lacrosse team, is the Syracuse University Female Scholar Athlete of the Week for the week of January 14.

Looney, a Silver Spring, Md. native, is a two-time fall and spring semester Athletic Director’s Honor Roll selection and was named a BIG EAST Academic All-Star in 2006. She is majoring in hospitality and food service management. Looney led the Orange with 42 ground balls, set an SU record with 33 caused turnovers and earned second-team All-BIG EAST accolades in 2007.

The Orange women’s lacrosse team opened practice on Saturday at the Carrier Dome. The 2008 regular season begins at home on Wednesday, February 20 against in-state foe Canisius at 7:00 p.m.
