SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange indoor track & field team returns to action on Saturday at Cornell for the Upstate Challenge. Syracuse will be making its second trip of the indoor season down Interstate-81 to Ithaca, N.Y. following the Cornell Relays on December 1.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange indoor track & field team returns to action on Saturday at Cornell for the Upstate Challenge. Syracuse will be making its second trip of the indoor season down Interstate-81 to Ithaca, N.Y. following the Cornell Relays on December 1.
SU will look to build upon the momentum established at the Syracuse Welcome Back on January 12. The Orange women collected 11 event titles, while the Syracuse men captured five event crowns. Veterans Sheron Mark, Bernard Bush and Ramon Sosa led the Orange charge.
Mark, in her first indoor action of the young season, posted first-place finishes in the long jump and triple jump with BIG EAST and ECAC-qualifying tallies of 5.70m and 12.48m, respectively.
Bush captured a first-place finish in the triple jump with a BIG EAST-qualifying distance of 13.76m. Sosa, also making his 2007-08 indoor debut, decisively collected the 55m hurdles crown with an IC4A-qualifying time of 7.43 seconds.
Senior Keisha Townsend finished first (8.47) in the 55m hurdles, while freshman Lareea Chisholm claimed a first-place (7.19) and ECAC-qualifying tally in the 55m dash. Freshman Samantha Haughton posted a first-place (1:00.01) finish in the 400m dash and junior Lori Robinson tallied the top time (1:22.26) in the 500m run.
Senior Jillian Kosinski (5:25.86) and sophomore Deanna Schmitt (3:07.49) ignited the SU distance attack with first-place finishes in the one mile run and the 1,000m run, respectively.
In the field events, sophomore Uhunoma Osazuwa claimed the top performance in the high jump (1.55m), while sophomore Monica Ridgeway posted first-place finishes in the shot put (12.58) and weight throw (15.09).
On the men’s side, freshman Da’Mon Merkerson, also a member of the Orange football team, sprinted to a first-place (51.44) finish in the 400m. Junior Mike Chitro finished first (1.85m) in the high jump and sophomore Ryan Johnson place first (13.92m) in the shot put.
