Greene Guides Orange to 41-34 Halftime Lead Against St. John’s

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Freshman forward Donte’ Greene’s blistering first-half shooting performance has charged Syracuse to a 41-34 advantage against St. John’s at the Carrier Dome.

Greene led all scorers with 17 points on 6-for-12 shooting overall. Junior center Arinze Onuaku complimented the Orange effort with nine points and four rebounds. Freshman point guard Jonny Flynn paired nine points with a game-high six assists.

For the second time in as many outings, Flynn brought the Loud House faithful to its feet after drilling a long-range jumper with time expiring in the first half.

The Orange took advantage of a 14-0 scoring run over slightly more than three minutes in the early stages of the first half. After St. John’s forward Justin Burrell flushed home a two-hand dunk, the Syracuse offense found its rhythm and took a commanding 19-6 lead following a Greene putback. Greene twice found himself alone for two of his four first-half trifectas.

The Red Storm cut into the Orange’s advantage following a scoring drought that last more than five minutes for the hosts. Burrell led the St. John’s attack with 14 points.
